My grandma

So, recently my uncles have been posting all of these old photos of my dad and his siblings and parents from the 50's and 60's. There are tons of pictures I'd never seen before and I'm absolutely in love with them. I like pictures anyway, and to hear about my Grandpa taking pictures of my Grandma and their kids makes me happy. I wish he was around still so we could talk about cameras and all that- I never knew him though. My Grandma died when I was in high school, and this past weekend it would have been her birthday I believe, so I decided to post these pictures in her honor. My uncle Jeff says she was the original Scarlett Johannson. I agree.

My Grandma (Dorothy Marcia, called Marci) was THE most lovely, sweet and kind person I've ever known. She had so much love to give and I know she loved and helped and prayed for each one of her children and grandchildren her entire life.

When I was 5 we got to live with her for a few years. It takes a wonderful woman to let her Son and his wife and 3 kids live with her in a tiny condo. She was an amazing example to all of us, and I know for sure her influence helped my family become active in the church.

My dad is # 3 out of 7 children...the first four were boys, then two girls, then a boy. Seeing these makes me want a big family. We'll see if that actually happens...ha. :)

Busy Times

Things have been a little crazy around the house. With David working, going to school and taking an LSAT class 3 times a week we barely see each other, except on weekends. I've been finding things to occupy my time- netflix being one of them. I've also gotten myself back into reading, something I used to LOVE and I'm realizing how much I've missed it.

I've also decided to be more diligent in posting on my Recipe Blog, and invited Kristine and Kari to contribute to it as well to keep things busy. Check it out if you want some cooking ideas. We like good food. A lot.

David takes the LSAT this Saturday and we're getting pretty nervous. Well, him more than me. But he is more stressed right now than I've seen him in all the time I've known him- which makes me uneasy. We'll be happy once it hits about noon this Saturday. Then we'll be on our way to California to see my family, David's family, our nieces and fly to Hawaii for a week!

A new niece

It worked out well with Moonsung delivering this week (a bit early) since we were planning on being in California this weekend anyway- we were able to see our new neice Campbell in the hospital, which was exciting since we weren't able to do that with either of our other nieces. She is beautiful! and we are so excited for Brian + Moonsung and all of the fun they're about to have.

We got a new lens this weekend and it's been fun to play around with. We tried it out with Campbell here:

Shakespeare Festival

We had a great time at Shakespeare this year in Cedar City. We always look forward to it because it's a short little vacation that gives us a break from all our responsibilities. Everyone came this year except Brian + Moonsung, since she's due with her baby girl in a few more weeks.

Friday: David got up early and golfed, while I slept in. We didn't get that much sleep because of a super loud AC unit that howled along with the wind. Did you know it was windy in Cedar City? It was about my 6th time there and I never noticed the wind before this trip. Later that day we headed over to the El Rey where everyone else stays and all the kids swam. Then we ate lunch at Cafe Rio. Never get sick of it. Then we took naps. Then we headed to the green show on campus and I saw Pride and Prejudice while David saw...I don't remember what play it was. My play was really good.

Saturday: David golfed early again. We had lunch at the park- dutch oven chicken and cobbler. We went up to Cedar Breaks and walked around, then went to the green show. Then dinner at Pizza Factory. After we went to see Inception with Dustin and Chelsea.

There wasn't really ever a dull moment with so many people and kids running around. It was a fun little trip as always.
And that picture of me and David at Cedar Breaks was the only picture of both of us together taken the entire weekend...and the only one with me in it. Oh well.

This Weekend- Shakespeare Festival

We are going once again. I am excited for this break from work and all the other crazy stuff in our lives. I feel like the last 2 months have been the busiest we've ever had!

This weekend I'm looking forward to family time, hanging with my nieces, seeing a non-Shakespeare play (gasp!) which happens to be the greatest story ever (Pride and Prejudice).

Also looking forward to sleeping in, eating good food, going for a drive in the mountains and hopefully enjoying cooler weather in Cedar City.

Nostalgia

One of my favorite things is reading through my journal. I am so so so happy that I kept one (online and written) before and during dating david. I found a list of things I love...I thought I'd document it on here, among other things over the next few weeks. It's my anniversary month so I'm feeling lovey and nostalgic. Here's my list with a few things omitted that don't apply anymore. This is what has stood the test of time (a.k.a. the last 5 years).

Red hair.
Lemonade.
Letters.
Hymns.
Slip-on shoes.
Red nail polish.
Singing Carole King with mom.
Crest whitening strips.
Summer nights.
The lake.
Lightning.
Harmonizing.
Black and white pictures.
Banana seat bikes.
Boy backs.
"Sleeping with you, sorry I snore".
Sounding better live.
Sylvia Plath.
Dating through every season.

imetagirlsofairbutGollumandthe
evilonecreptupandslippedawaywithher.
Down comforters.
Clean baby smell.
Home videos.
Sleeping with the window open.
One pieces.
Dad liking an album he borrowed from me(that's all that matters).
O, that I were an angel...
TAF strumming, me singing.
Sign language.
Sideburns.
Cracking toes.
Fab four.
The fourth of july.
Feeling like I'm still 14.
Central park.
Imagine.

What I want to add to my list:

Peace signs.
The Davey Crocket quilt.
Baby names.

Knowing where I'll be every Sunday for the rest of my life.

Someday her name and mine are going to be the same.

George Eliot

Now that I've seen every Jane Austen movie...well not exactly, but almost...I thought it time to move on to something similar but different. Lucky for me, brilliant Netflix realized my very specific style and made a new suggestion genre for me appropriately called "Romantic British Dramas" or something like that. Daniel Deronda (originally a book by George Eliot) was a suggestion so I added it, watched it, and really liked it. One of the best things about this genre is that you see the same actors over and over in these period pieces... in Daniel Deronda I saw the main girl who is Emma in a BBC version, Mr. Collins from the A&E version of P + P, and the chubby cheeks guy from Notting Hill...not a period piece but funny nonetheless.

I told David about my new George Eliot find and he surprised me by telling me that George Eliot was actually a woman...and that George Eliot was her pen name. Now I was intrigued (and embarassed 1. that I didn't already know that and 2. because I haven't read anything by him...her...whatever.)

I now have about 5 other George Eliot based movies in my Netflix queue. And a big list of new classic novels I need to devour.

Anyone out there have a fave, or ever seen any of them?

Mr. Beck

Beck has made his way into our lives and he's already made quite an impression :) He's definitely the baby I've photographed the most in my life so far, and I've enjoyed every minute of it! I had this idea to do a before/after shot with Christiana, and I happened to take the before picture (of her belly) the day before baby boy arrived. It was kind of an afterthought shot, but it turned out to be my favorite. The after shot of him was taken when he was a week old. He's a good yawner!
Just a reminder, please do not use my photos without a link
back to the original post. Feel free to contact me with questions.

The 4th

4th of July weekend was spent in California, babysitting our nieces and celebrating with David's brothers + their families in LA. We bbq'ed and played with the girls in their jump house...so fun! Then we headed out to watch fireworks at a park.

It's a Baby Shower!

My sister in law Chelsea and I (with a lot of help from my Mom as well) threw a shower for our sister in law Moonsung. She's having a baby girl and we couldn't be more excited to welcome another niece into the family :)
We went all pink! Dresden helped me cut out the flowers using a sweet little cutter thing for the mobile, and my mom and I baked all day Friday to get everything ready-

Go here to get the Brazilian Limeade recipe. It was a big hit!
